Project GUTS/Supercomputing Challenge Summer Roundup

Thanks to money from several sources (NM EPSCoR, NMSU's Scientifically Connected Communities, Gadsden Independent Schools, NM PED Perkins grant, UNM's Pre College Math and Science Academy, NMNC's Aspire Grant and a gift from Google) we are holding the third annual Summer Roundup across the state.

We are attempting to round up new schools and bring them into our learning community, either as GUTS after school clubs or Challenge teams. The main purposes of the roundups are to give students and teachers the taste of computer modeling and to get a commitment from these people to have a GUTS club or a Challenge team. We are hoping that many of the teachers would like to attend our Summer Teacher Institute.

Here are sites, dates and contacts throughout the state:

    Goals
    1. Students enjoy programming and want to do more.
    2. Teachers gain a basic understanding of the two languages (StarLogo TNG and NetLogo).
    3. Teachers receive information on how to either sponsor a Challenge team or be a GUTS club leader.

We are partnering with NMCAC (Computing Applications Center) to highlight their videoconferencing and 3D capabilities at their Gateways. We are also collaborating with NM EPSCoR to support the 2010 theme of climate change and New Mexico Mountain sources of water.
