Analysis of Magnetic Resonance Images of Alzheimer's Plaque in Transgenic Mouse BrainsTeam: 82 School: Manzano High Area of Science: Neurology
Proposal: This program will use MATLAB image processing tools to analyze magnetic resonance images of mouse brains that have been modified with human genes to allow for the growth of Alzheimer's plaques. Researchers who currently analyze these images spend months counting plaques by hand. A program to automate this process will be invaluable to the research community. The program will find the number of plaques, their positions, the signal to plaque intensity ratio, and the size of each plaque. The data that results from this program will be compared to the current results taken by hand.
